Magnetek Unveils Wireless Power Solutions at CTIA Show

ATLANTA, GA - March 23, 2004
- Magnetek Inc. (NYSE: MAG) today introduced a number of new products for the "wireless world" at the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association (CTIA) 2004 Show in Atlanta, Georgia. On display at Booth 1259 in the Georgia World Congress Center, March 22-24, are three new Magnetek "system solutions" designed to cut cell-site costs and space requirements, while increasing operating efficiency, for wireless system operators.

The Company's new Spectrum enclosure system supplies primary DC power for an entire cell site, and includes an integrated battery plant that provides the reserve power essential in the event of AC power outages. Designed to support Nokia's UltraSite base station, the system integrates easily with other cell-site base stations as well. It can be configured to support up to 2000-ampere rectification at +24Vdc or 1000-ampere rectification at -48Vdc in a compact 30" x 28" footprint. The complete site support package is shipped pre-wired, pre-tested and fully assembled, including the factory-installed battery plant, saving on-site installation time and cost.

In addition to the new Spectrum primary power system, Magnetek unveiled a complete line of Spectrum BBE enclosures designed to provide supplemental power for existing cell sites and other outdoor installations. These pre-engineered aluminum, battery back-up enclosures incorporate DC power systems for battery recharging and come equipped with HVAC. Various configurations and enclosure choices offer a variety of battery reserve times, with the largest enclosure accommodating up to eight 48-Volt, 170-amp-hour battery strings. 24Vdc configurations are also available.

The Company also launched its new PSC500 DC power system controller at the CTIA show. The PSC500 monitors and controls the operation of DC power system rectifier(s) via an analog or digital interface, and is also used to remotely monitor other vital cell-site equipment such as batteries, generators, transmission apparatus, HVAC, tower lights, and site security.  The controller's advanced features include user-definable alarms with Email-on-alarm notification capability and a battery run-time monitor that calculates available battery capacity. Ethernet networking is a standard feature, and the PSC500's web-based user interface simplifies monitoring and control of all key system functions.

Other power products and systems on display in Booth 1259 at CTIA Wireless 2004 include Magnetek's 4-string and 6-string 48Vdc battery backup enclosures, the Company's Access series of back-up power systems, enclosures for microwave radio and other transmission equipment, and heavy-duty battery rack systems certified to Zone 4 (earthquake) requirements.

Magnetek provides an array of digital power control products and systems to telecom, datacom and Internet service providers, utilities, government agencies, and original equipment manufacturers.  They include rack- and cabinet-mounted DC power plants; modular walk-in enclosures and lightweight shelters; mobile "Cells on Wheels" (COWs) and "Cells on Light Trucks" (COLTs), and associated power infrastructure; NEBS-certified stand-by power accessories; and a variety of power products and systems that have remote monitoring and control capability.

Magnetek also designs and manufactures digital power control products and systems used in a variety of non-telecom applications requiring highly reliable, precise, energy-efficient power, including distributed power generation, industrial controls, medical electronics, semiconductor processing, consumer products, transportation, and information technology. The Company operates manufacturing and research facilities in North America, Europe and Asia, and had revenues of $202 million in its 2003 fiscal year, ended on June 30, 2003.
